Starting Pilates can feel a little intimidating at first, especially when everything seems slow, controlled, and very precise. But that’s exactly where the magic happens. Pilates is all about building deep core strength—the kind that supports your posture, protects your back, and improves how your whole body moves.

The good news? You don’t need dozens of exercises to get started. Just a handful of well-chosen moves can make a real difference.

What to do

Begin with the Pelvic Tilt, a simple movement that teaches you how to engage your core and find a neutral spine. From there, the Hundred is a classic—it looks basic, but it fires up your entire core while improving coordination and breathing.

The Single Leg Stretch and Double Leg Stretch are great next steps, helping you build control while keeping your lower back stable. Then there’s the Roll-Up, which challenges both strength and flexibility as you move through your spine with control.

To target your lower abs, Leg Circles are key. They may seem small, but they demand stability and precision. The Plank is another essential, building full-body strength with a strong focus on the core.

For your back and posture, Swimming works the muscles along your spine, helping to balance out all that core work. Meanwhile, the Side Leg Lift strengthens your hips and supports overall stability.

Finally, the Spine Stretch Forward helps release tension and improve flexibility, giving your body a well-rounded routine.

The key with all of these moves isn’t speed—it’s control. Focus on your breathing, move with intention, and don’t worry about being perfect. With consistency, these simple exercises will build a strong, stable core that supports you in everything you do.
